Iran reaches intl. water polo event final

TEHRAN, May 29 (MNA) – After beating their group B’s strongest rival Austria 12-7, the Iranian National water polo team reached the final match at the 5th edition of the FINA World Men's Water Polo Development Trophy held in Tehran.

So far, Sirous Taherian’s men had trounced Guatemala, Indonesia and Tunisia in their first three matches. However, Thursday match against the Austrians was assumed a stressful one for the Iranian fans at the Shahid Shiroudi Stadium.

But as the match got close to its final stages, Iran became better and widened the gap to win the 4th and final match of its group stage and proceed to the final with 8 points.

In the final match on May 29, the Iranians will meet Latin American powerhouse Uruguay.

The 6-day international water polo event, which hosts as many as ten countries, kicked off on May 24.
